Our Goals
REDUCE NUCLEAR WEAPONS - The Center works to reduce nuclear weapons stockpiles worldwide, maintain the moratorium on nuclear weapons testing, decrease the role of nuclear weapons in U.S. national security policy, stop the development of new nuclear weapons, halt the deployment of untested missile defense systems, and strengthen treaty-based cooperative arms control efforts worldwide.
INCREASE NON-PROLIFERATION EFFORTS - The Center works to strengthen an international nuclear non-proliferation regime based on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), secure and reduce all vulnerable nuclear weapons-usable material throughout the world, and halt the spread of weapons of mass destruction to state and non-state actors.
OPTIMIZE NATIONAL SECURITY SPENDING - The Center works to transform defense spending and strategy to better meet the threats of the 21st century, promote increased oversight of the U.S. defense budget, and change the Cold War-era notion that military spending is worthwhile even if it doesn't properly meet current security challenges.
HALT THE SPREAD OF BIOLOGICAL AND CHEMICAL WEAPONS - The Center works to enhance transparency of biodefense programs worldwide, ensure that scientific advances in biology and chemistry will be used for peaceful and not hostile purposes, and strengthen existing international treaties that make it more difficult for individuals to possess or trade biological or chemical weapons.
