Job Opening for Deputy Director of Nuclear Non-Proliferation in Washington, D.C.

Position Requirements:

The Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation is seeking to hire a Deputy Director of Nuclear Non-Proliferation.

Under the overall direction of the Director of Nuclear Non-Proliferation and the Chief Operating Officer, the Deputy Director of Nuclear Non-Proliferation will be responsible for assisting in educating Congress and the Administration on nuclear arms control and non-proliferation issues.

Issue priorities include the New START nuclear arms agreement, deep reductions in nuclear weapons on a path toward a world free of nuclear weapons, ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, keeping nuclear weapons and materials out of the hands of nuclear terrorists, full funding for nuclear non-proliferation programs and pressing for continued engagement with Iran and North Korea.

Candidates should have outstanding written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational skills, experience or a strong interest in nuclear arms control, non-proliferation and national security issues, a B.A. or B.S., and experience working on Capitol Hill and/or a strong network of Capitol Hill contacts.

Responsibilities Include:

Supporting and assisting the Director of Nuclear Non-Proliferation and the Executive Director, including:

  • Interfacing with Capitol Hill and the Executive Branch and educating Members of Congress and their staff, including organizing meetings with Congressional offices, administration officials and meetings with other arms control groups
  • Helping to organize briefings on Capitol Hill, including identifying potential topics and speakers
  • Drafting fact sheets, letters, items for the Center website, issue briefs, and questions for the record to be submitted to Members of Congress
  • Attending and representing the Center at meetings, hearings and briefings on Capitol Hill and at arms control community events
  • Performing detailed research on relevant aspects of U.S. nuclear weapons and non-proliferation policy and issues related to the spread of nuclear weapons, and the Congressional process;
  • Helping to ensure that the Center’s non-proliferation website is properly maintained and continually updated

Salary commensurate with experience, in the range of $40,000-$60,000, includes generous benefits package.
