Samuel M. Hickey is the Paul Castleman Fellow at the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation. His areas of focus include national security issues in Congress, the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, nuclear security, and missile defense. He is also a Term Member on the Advisory Board of the International Nuclear Security Forum.
Prior to joining the Center, Sam was a visiting researcher at the Arab Institute for Security Studies in Amman, Jordan, where he was lead researcher on a manuscript titled, “Nuclear Energy Diplomacy in the Middle East Region: Key Nuclear Technology Providers and Prospects of Regional Influence.” His research has been published in the journal Energy Research and Social Science. Before that, he was appointed an Adjunct Instructor of Physics at American University in Washington, D.C.
His publications have appeared in War on the Rocks, Washington Post/Monkey Cage, the Diplomat Magazine, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, Foreign Affairs and other outlets. Sam received a dual degree from American University with a B.A. International Studies with a regional focus in the Middle East, and a B.S. in Physics.
