Senior Policy Director John Erath was quoted in The Analyst discussing a recent pledge signed by five nuclear states – the United States, Russia, China, the UK and France – agreeing that a nuclear war “cannot be won and must never be fought.”
The January statement is the first time the other three nuclear powers under the NPT, China, the UK, and France, have been added to the pledge, said John Erath, senior policy director at the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation in the U.S.
“The nuclear states have an obligation to do what they can towards disarmament,” he said, calling for states to keep dialogue open on arms control. “This is a signal to the rest of the world that we have not forgotten this.” Read more
