Washington, DC – Following a highly competitive proposal process, the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation has received a $492,000 grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation focused on building support for strong and lasting nuclear security policies.
The two-year grant will allow the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation to host and support the Fissile Materials Working Group (FMWG) — a worldwide network of 80 civil society organizations that support improved fissile material security and the prevention of nuclear terrorism around the world. Working together, the Center and FMWG will inform global leaders, the media and the public about nuclear security, including the worldwide prevalence of weapons-grade materials.
“We are grateful to the Carnegie Corporation and the MacArthur Foundation for this generous grant to our organization. It will further our efforts to create actionable nuclear security policies,” said John F. Tierney, a former 9-term member of Congress and the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation’s Executive Director. “This award will enable the Center and the FMWG to expand our work to help keep the United States and the world safe from nuclear terrorism.”
