Sophia Macartney is a Spring 2023 Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellow working at the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation. Throughout her fellowship, she is working on export controls and sanctions, and aiding in the planning of several congressional briefings. Her interests include nuclear non–proliferation, export controls, emerging technology and national security policy.
Prior to being selected as a Scoville Fellow, Sophia graduated from the University of Georgia with Bachelor of Arts degrees in International Affairs and Sociology. Sophia has held internships at a supply chain intelligence group, a government contracting company, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. She has also conducted and presented independent research on U.S. counterterrorism policy and conducted faculty-led research on emerging technology and surveillance in China.
In her spare time, Sophia enjoys hiking, going to museums, reading and trying new things with friends.
