It’s looking increasingly likely that the U.S. and Russia will be unable to sign a New START agreement until sometime early next year. Of course, if the two sides manage to sign an accord this weekend or early next week, I reserve the right to strike the above statement from the record.
Since nothing says happy hour like a little Russian inter-agency smack talk, behold today’s “Your Moment of Zen”, NoH style:
Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko had earlier [today] said Moscow was counting on “resolving all the remaining questions in the very near future, if not in hours.”
But Kremlin spokesman Natalia Timakova, who was travelling with Medvedev, later issued a highly unusual public rebuke to Nesterenko, telling reporters what he said “has nothing in common with reality.”
