In her Jan. 23 op-ed “N.J. senators a threat to Iran deal,” Rachel Staley argues that Sen. Robert Menendez’s sanctions bill, co-sponsored by Sen. Cory Booker (both D-N.J.) and 43 Republican senators, undermines ongoing attempts to cap Iran’s nuclear program.
For three decades, the United States and Iran have been enemies — a situation that has come to a head over Iran’s nuclear development. For the first time in a generation, there is real potential for a solution that enhances American security.
But the sanctions bill Menendez put forward would effectively change the rules mid-game. Ask any businessman: That is a sure way to end a deal and a business relationship.
