As the 75th year of the nuclear age fast approaches, the world faces an uncertain future. Nine nations possess nuclear weapons, dozens more have the capability to create nuclear weapons programs, and dangerous nuclear material is spread out across the globe. The longer these weapons and materials exist, the more likely it is that they will be used in an act of war or terrorism, or by accident. Without serious reinvestments and reinventions in the policies, plans, and people that control nuclear risks, the world could run out of luck.
