Remembering Jack Woodall

The Center was proud to be associated with Jack Woodall, a member of our Scientists Working Group and an esteemed scientist and honorable human being. We send our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues now sharing in this loss.

Jack was one of the most active members of the Scientists Working Group, founded to aid the Parties in their efforts to strengthen the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC). One measure was the founding of ProMED-mail an Internet reporting system dedicated to rapid global dissemination of information on outbreaks of infectious diseases, which were often kept quiet at the time. This was Jack’s idea, and it came about because he did it all himself until it reached a level that attracted funders. Since 1996 it has grown enormously and become an essential, world-wide service.

Learn more about Jack’s chemical and biological weapons control work on our website and click here to see the STAT’s news release on Jack’s death.
