“The Ed Show” Features Laicie Heeley on Iran Talks Deadline

Deadline Looms in Iran Nuclear Talks

With the Iran Talks deadline approaching, many following this issue were pessimistic about the negotiators’ ability to come through with an understanding between all parties. In a discussion on “The Ed Show” the Center’s Policy Director, Laicie Heeley took to the stage to dispel some of the greater misunderstandings that informed these pessimistic views.

“There was never an agreement to ship the uranium out of Iran and to Russia, so that is just one of two possibilities that were kicked around… anything that puts Iran’s nuclear material under lock and key, keeps it under lock and key; and makes it not possible for them to use that material to build a nuclear weapon. That’s really the concern here.

“Of course we don’t trust Iran. That’s why we need a deal, that’s why we need verification, that’s why we need inspectors on the ground… Iran built its current program under sanctions, so what do you think Iran is going to do if we put those sanctions in place again?
