Military, Science and Political Experts Comment on Reconciling Key Policy Differences between Senate and House NDAA
Washington DC – December 5, 2012 – Press Advisory – The Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation will host a press call with Lt. General Robert Gard, Phillip Coyle and John Isaacs on reconciling differences in national security and arms control policy between the Senate and House versions of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) on Monday, December 10th at 2PM EST.
WHAT: Key arms control and national security policy differences remain to be resolved by the House-Senate conference committee including the East Coast missile defense system, withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, strategic arms reductions under the New START Treaty, the Shaheen amendment to protect military victims of sexual violence and funding for the next generation of Ohio-class strategic nuclear submarines, long-range bombers and the plutonium research facility at Los Alamos.

WHO: Lt. General Robert Gard, PhD (ret. U.S. Army) is the Chairman of the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation and a globally-recognized expert on a range of national security topics including military policy, Iraq, Iran, missile defense, Afghanistan, terrorism and nuclear security.
In his 31 year military career, Gen. Gard saw combat in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, served as Executive Assistant to two Secretaries of Defense, Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs and as president of the National Defense University.
Phillip Coyle is the former Associate Director for National Security and International Affairs for the Office of Science and Technology Policy under President Barack Obama. Previously, he was the Senior Advisor to the President of the World Security Institute and is currently the Senior Science Fellow at the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation.
John Isaacs is the Executive Director of the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation and Council for a Livable World. He has represented the Council for a Livable World on Capitol Hill since 1978; he is one of the top experts on the politics of Congress and arms control.
